Magento2 Modifying of serving the images via pub/get.php

Question

Is there a way how to modify behavior of serving the images via of pub/get.php?

I tried to create plugin for Magento\MediaStorage\App\Media, and to override it, and to create plugin for other classes that are used there, but no success. It seems that Magento\MediaStorage\App\Media completely ignores di.xml file. Is there a way how to inject a custom funcionality into the serving of product images via pub/get.php?
