Dado um conjunto de caracteres que forma uma frase de palavras, forneça um algoritmo eficiente para reverter a ordem das palavras (não dos caracteres).
Exemplo de entrada e saída:
>>> reverse_words("this is a string")
'string a is this'
Deve ser O(N) tempo e O(1) espaço (split()
e empurrar/retirar da pilha não são permitidos).
O quebra-cabeça é retirado aqui.
Solução
Uma solução em C/C++:

Deve ser O(n) no tempo e O(1) no espaço.
Editar:Limpei um pouco.
A primeira passagem pela string é obviamente O(n/2) = O(n).A segunda passagem é O(n + comprimento combinado de todas as palavras / 2) = O(n + n/2) = O(n), o que torna este um algoritmo O(n).
Outras dicas
empurrar uma string para uma pilha e depois retirá-la - isso ainda é O (1)?essencialmente, isso é o mesmo que usar split()...
O(1) não significa no local?Essa tarefa fica fácil se pudermos apenas acrescentar strings e outras coisas, mas isso usa espaço...
EDITAR:Thomas Watnedal está certo.O seguinte algoritmo é O(n) no tempo e O(1) no espaço:
- string reversa no local (primeira iteração sobre string)
- reverter cada palavra (invertida) no local (outras duas iterações sobre string)
- encontrar o limite da primeira palavra
- reverter dentro deste limite de palavra
- repita para a próxima palavra até terminar
Acho que precisaríamos provar que o passo 2 é realmente apenas O(2n)...

Você usaria o que é conhecido como função recursiva iterativa, que é O(N) no tempo, pois leva N (N sendo o número de palavras) iterações para ser concluída e O(1) no espaço, pois cada iteração mantém seu próprio estado dentro os argumentos da função.

Observação:Eu escrevi isso no esquema em que sou um novato completo, então peço desculpas pela falta de manipulação correta das strings.
remove-first-word encontra o limite da primeira palavra da frase, então pega aquela seção de caracteres (incluindo espaço e pontuação) e a remove e retorna uma nova frase
add-first-word encontra o limite da primeira palavra da frase, então pega aquela seção de caracteres (incluindo espaço e pontuação) e a adiciona à frase reversa e retorna o novo conteúdo da frase reversa.
