Question

Hi I ran 2 instances of infinispan server 6.0.0.CR1 using default Jgroups-UDP config and i dont see cluster formation. I updated the Default Jgroups UDP config interface to point to machine IP instead of Loop back Address.

 <interface name="management">
            <inet-address value="${jboss.bind.address.management:10.51.11.218}"/>
        </interface>
        <interface name="public">
            <inet-address value="${jboss.bind.address:10.51.11.218}"/>
        </interface>

Solution

Check firewall settings in these machines, they could be blocking UDP traffic. You can use Wireshark to verify that UDP packets are actually leaving the machine, or enable TRACE logging in org.jgroups package. Also, router/switch could be configured to not allow UDP traffic. Finally, if you can't get it to work, change to TCP as main transport protocol, and use TCPPING for discovery of nodes, passing in the IP addresses of the two nodes forming the cluster. Switching to TCP is easy, just pass in -Djboss.default.jgroups.stack=tcp, but you need to switch MPING configuration for TCPPING In standalone/configuration/clustered.xml:

<protocol type="TCPPING">
  <property name="initial_hosts">10.51.11.215[7600],10.51.11.218[7600]</property>
</protocol>
