Question

I'm creating an application that will have a window over top of another, similar to the general idea seen here. I'm still new to JavaFX and am looking for a simple way of accomplishing this but with more complicated forms, each with their own .fxml files. This is what I have so far:

public void btnNewProjectClicked(){
    //! this should open the other form, but it doesn't
    Parent root;
    try {
        root = FXMLLoader.load(getClass().getClassLoader().getResource("../fxml/NewProject.fxml"));
        Scene scene = new Scene(root, 300, 250);
        Stage stage = new Stage();
        stage.setTitle("It works!");
        stage.setScene(scene);
        stage.show();

    } catch (IOException e) {
        e.printStackTrace();
    }
}

Everything works fine with the parent window until btnNewProjectClicked is called. Once it is, I get a slew of errors:

What do I need to change to accomplish this? -> For those of you curious, line 98 is the line with FXMLLoader.

Was it helpful?

Solution

".." is not valid in a string provided to getResource(...). Remember that you will typically be loading from inside a jar file. (There is not real concept of from where your relative path is being defined.) Provide the path in the form

getClass().getResource("/path/to/fxml/NewProject.fxml");

where the path you define is relative to your classpath.

OTHER TIPS

I also faced with such an issue, please try to replace this:

getClass().getClassLoader().getResource("../fxml/NewProject.fxml")

with this:

getClass().getResource("../fxml/NewProject.fxml")
