iPad Google Sheets and using Apple Pencil to enter a lot of text into one cell

Question

There is a "pencil" area at the bottom and I have been able to write with the "pencil" until reaching the end of the line. And then it seems impossible or not intuitive how to keep editing. If you write on the "left" side of the text area again, you just end up editing or messing with what you already wrote.

There is a "gesture" where if you hold your pencil at the very end for a second, a tiny gray area "opens up" and you can squeeze one more word in there. But that's pretty slow.

I'm aware you can connect a keyboard and I suppose if that is the only solution then okay, but I had hoped you can write more with the "pencil".
