Question

I am not sure with my answers with my network questions. I need help please.

calculation doesnt matter. i just want idea on which link or links together i will consider when i calculate the throughput and transfer time.

A big file will be sent from A host to B host through 3 links with the speed of 500 Kbps, 2Mbps, and 1Mbps.

a) assume that there is just one user on the system , what is the end-to-end throughput? b) if file is 4gb , how long the transfer will last? c) answer the a and b options again thinking there is 100Kbps link instead of 2Mbps link.

Was it helpful?

Solution

The throughput will be the speed of the slowest link as that forms a bottleneck - you can do the calculation for yourself.

OTHER TIPS

You won't find a lot of people willing to help with such little evidence of trying to research the answer yourself first...look up throughput and other options for calculating transfer time to help you out.

I asume your file is 4GB that is 4096MB Which converts to 32768 Mb now the questions 2Mb and 1Mb should be easy to solve for the solution for the speed in Kbps you need to convert the Mb's to Kb's which is a factor of 1000 thus you now have 32768.

Now you should do the math because this is home work and you should learn from it.

Ow and some more GB is gigabyte and Gb is gigabit a bit is 8 times more than a byte.

I believe that you are making a mistake here. As I read the question, the links are in series, rather than in parallel.

If that reading is incorrect, you still have an error, as the wording suggests that you would be sending the file through all three, rather than just the fastest (probably splitting it into packets or some such).
