¿Cómo usar los controladores genéricos (ASHX) en ASP.NET MVC?

Question

Necesito un generador de imágenes en mi aplicación ASP.NET MVC, pero no sé si es posible usar ASHX en ASP.NET MVC.

Si hay una clase similar a IHttpHandler que hereda IViewDataContainer, entonces podría usar ViewData.Model en mi ASHX.

Leí una publicación de blog al respecto pero parece anticuado por la información que obtuve en el foro ASP.NET

Y sí, puede usar ashx junto con MVC (diciéndole que ignore la ruta), pero no estoy seguro de que sea el mejor enfoque a menos que sea para reutilizar el código existente.

También puede usar esta clase ImageResult para devolver una imagen.

No es necesario un controlador, simplemente cree una ruta como:

/ ImageGenerator / {action} / {imageid} /

y devuelve un ImageResult para la solicitud.

Para usar esto, haga lo siguiente en un controlador y agregue una ruta para ello:
