I have 2 cases , I am having issue with printing and controlling the JTextArea from parent frame or within JDialog itself. In addition , I have Jbutton added to parent JFrame when I click it , JDialog appears but still having the printing issue. Furthermore , this JButton makes call to another class and does scanning operation which I want to actually pass results to my JDialog's JTextArea , I code for it as well , but when I click the scan button JDialog appears , after I close it then scan operation starts. I want scan operation start within JFrame and Print it to JDialog's Component which is JTextArea added to my JDialog.

Solución

Why not to make Your ScanResultsDialog couple of extra methods:

public void setText(String msg) { textArea.settext(msg); }; // good
public JTextArea getTextArea() { return textArea; }; // bad

Tough I'd consider later highly undecommended -- why should You do something with dialog's inner objects from outside? Seems to be a bad idea.
