Why am I getting exception as I try to read .DOCX file?

While trying to read .docx file using the following snippet :

What does it mean ? Why does it occur ?

Your classpath is missing a library, xmlbeans. Check the POI's Component Map page.

Reassuming:

1. you need poi-ooxml
2. poi-ooxml depends on poi-ooxml-schemas (see the dependencies tag)
3. poi-ooxml-schemas depends on xmlbeans

So you have to add the xmlbeans jar.

NoClassDefFoundError explanation:

Thrown if the Java Virtual Machine or a ClassLoader instance tries to load in the definition of a class (as part of a normal method call or as part of creating a new instance using the new expression) and no definition of the class could be found.

The searched-for class definition existed when the currently executing class was compiled, but the definition can no longer be found.
