La correzione era:

sudo aptitude install libmysqlclient-dev

sudo easy_install MySQL-python

In primo luogo, prova dpkg -L python-mysqldb, poi si vedrà ciò che è installato.

In secondo luogo, si sono ovviamente usando una Python manully compilato 2.7, mentre Ubuntu installa i pacchetti per Python 2.6, che è il default corrente. Avrete bisogno di usare easy_install installare python-mysql per l'installazione 2.7.
