Question
I am a SQL developer having more than 4 years of experience.I have heard about the TOGAF.I have set my career path as an architect. Please sugest ,is it a good idea to certify at this period. I can see most of the architects are having more than 20 years of experience
Solution
TOGAF is a certification for an Enterprise Architecture Framework. There are several kinds of "Architects" and you have to decide what kind of architect you want to be first. Usually it is easier for a technical person to start as a Technical Architect, then learn more about the business you are in and move to the role of a Solution Architect. Finally you then can abandon most of your technical skills and concentrate on business and strategy to become an enterprise architect. So to answer your question, I would not recommend to certify TOGAF before being a solution architect and wanting to make the move to EA.
There are already some questions regarding how-to-become-a-technical-architect on Stackoverflow, you may look at them.
Technical Architect is one kind of possible start, I went from Java developer to Software Architect before being a Solution Architect and now continuing as Enterprise Architect. On other possible start on this path is to try to become a Data Architect which is maybe the most simple path for people near to DB stuff...
