WinHttp não funciona quando o nome do host não contém www.(erro 12029)

Isso funciona bem, mas se eu tirar o www.em www.microsoft.com recebo um erro 12029 ERROR_WINHTTP_CANNOT_CONNECT, qual é o motivo disso?

Todos os sites funcionarão com winhttp se usar www.?como alguns sites não usam www, não consegui encontrar nenhum agora, mas vi alguns sites que mostravam "Servidor não encontrado" no navegador ao acessar com www.mas eles trabalharam sem isso.

microsoft.com retorna um 301 Moved Permanently cabeçalho, para que o winhttp honre isso e redirecione para o URL no Location: cabeçalho (o www.) que você precisa usar WinHttpSetOption para definir o apropriado WINHTTP_OPTION_REDIRECT_* opção(ões).
