Onde posso aprender sobre o URI “shell:”?

Acabei de perceber que existe um shell: URI, mas todo mecanismo de pesquisa parece pensar concha: e concha são a mesma coisa.

A única coisa que descobri é que você pode digitar shell:startup direto no Explorer (testado com XP e 7) para efeitos óbvios.
Isso já é bom porque não há %startup%, mas quero saber do que mais isso é capaz.

Existe alguma referência da MS sobre isso?

Stuart parece ter encontrado uma lista bastante completa de pastas;Vou falar sobre o mecanismo por trás disso.A disponibilidade desse recurso vem, pelo menos em parte, do recurso Url Moniker do Windows (lembro-me dele como um recurso do IE, mas como eles estão integrados e tudo...):ver http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms775149.aspx

Você pode registrar seus próprios monikers de URL implementando uma interface COM para um provedor de moniker e também pode fazer com que seu aplicativo atue como um cliente. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa741006.aspx

Você notará que pelo menos algumas versões do cliente MSDN usam esse recurso, e alguns outros recursos antigos do navegador, como about:blank (para os quais você pode navegar a partir do shell), também dependem desse mecanismo.Se bem me lembro, o IE depende das implementações do provedor de URL Moniker do wininet.dll para navegar, por exemplo, sites http e https.(gopher e alguns outros protocolos também foram implementados lá).É possível que o IE use algo mais direto, já que minhas memórias daquela época são um tanto nebulosas e eu não estive intimamente envolvido.
