O que há de errado com a seguinte implementação de um Árvore de pesquisa binária (BST)? Foi -me dito que é melhor usar o ponteiro para um ponteiro para struct
Nó como um argumento na função de inserção.

Solução
Está linha:
leaf = (struct node*) malloc( sizeof( struct node ) );
dá um novo valor para leaf
, apontando -o para alguma memória recém -alocada. No entanto, o novo valor não deixa a função. Quando a função retornar, o chamador ainda estará se referindo ao antigo leaf
, e haverá um vazamento de memória.
Existem duas abordagens que você pode adotar para consertá -lo:
1. Use um ponteiro para um ponteiro, por exemplo
void insert(int key, struct node **leaf)
{
if(*leaf == 0 )
{
*leaf = (struct node*) malloc( sizeof( struct node ) );
...
}
/* In caller -- & is prepended to current_leaf. */
insert(37, ¤t_leaf);
2. Retorne a nova folha (ou a folha antiga se não houver alteração).
struct node *insert(int key, struct node *leaf)
{
if(leaf == 0 )
{
leaf = (struct node*) malloc( sizeof( struct node ) );
...
}
return leaf;
}
/* In caller -- & is prepended to current_leaf. */
current_leaf = insert(37, current_leaf);
Os ponteiros para os ponteiros estão próximos do limiar de serem difíceis de compreender. Eu provavelmente iria para a segunda opção, se insert
No momento, não está retornando mais nada.
Outras dicas
Quando um nó é inserido (folha == 0), você não mudou o pai, para que o novo nó se torne um órfão.
Em outras palavras, sua árvore ainda parecerá apenas um nó, não importa quantos nós tenham sido chamados com inserção.
